Meet Bo: The Story Behind Our New Logo (and Our Next Chapter)

If you've noticed there's a goat on our new logo, you're probably wondering the same thing everyone else has asked: Why a goat? It's a fair question.

After more than 15 years with a construction-themed logo, Kids Under Construction has a new face…and his name is Bo. Before I introduce him, I want to say something else first.

It's been a while.

If you've followed Kids Under Construction for years, you may have noticed we've been pretty quiet on social media. That doesn't mean we've been standing still. In fact, these last few years have been some of the busiest, most exciting, and most meaningful in our journey.

We've continued helping students grow in confidence. We've expanded our homeschool programs. We've welcomed more student athletes into our community. And this year, we opened our second tutoring center—our new home in Franklin, Tennessee.

As our business has grown, I've realized something: our logo needed to grow with us.

Where It All Started

Kids Under Construction was born in 2008 with one simple idea:

Learning is something we build.

The original front-end loader represented laying strong academic foundations—one skill, one success, and one confident learner at a time.

The name itself has always been personal.

When I was brainstorming ideas for my tutoring business, my mom reminded me of the "Baby Under Construction" shirts that were everywhere when she was pregnant with me. My younger brother was completely fascinated by construction equipment growing up, and I loved the idea of channeling that excitement into a learning environment where children could build confidence through hands-on, meaningful experiences.

That philosophy hasn't changed. Construction is still at the heart of who we are.

We still believe every child is building something—knowledge, confidence, resilience, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

But as Kids Under Construction evolved, it became clear that our logo should evolve too.

Meet Bo

When it came time for our next chapter, I wasn't just looking for a new mascot. I was looking for something that represented the way children actually learn.

That's when Bo came along.

Bo is curious, clever, and determined.

He loves exploring. He isn't afraid to take the unexpected path.

And honestly…

That's exactly how many children learn.

Goats have a reputation for finding creative solutions. They climb. They investigate. They persist. They don't always take the easiest route, but somehow they keep moving upward. I see those same qualities in the students who walk through our doors every day.

The children who ask "Why?"

The ones who need to move while they learn.

The students who don't always fit inside a traditional box.

The kids who simply need someone to believe in them until they begin believing in themselves.

Those are our kind of kids.

Why "Bo"?

This part of the story is especially close to my heart.

From the very beginning, my parents believed in this business. 

My dad helped me create my very first tutoring center. He showed up whenever something needed to be built, fixed, moved, or improved. More importantly, he believed in what Kids Under Construction could become. He loved hearing about student breakthroughs and celebrating every new milestone right alongside me.

Last summer, after he passed away, I knew I wanted to carry a small piece of him into this next chapter.

His nickname was Bo.

Naming our mascot after him felt like the perfect way to honor someone who helped build this business from the ground up. Now, every time I see Bo, I'm reminded of where we started, the people who believed in this dream, and the countless students who continue to inspire us every day.

Why a Goat?

There turned out to be more reasons than I expected. 

Baby goats are called kids, which felt like it was meant to be.

Goats are intelligent, social, curious, and surprisingly athletic. We work with many student athletes, and our Franklin tutoring center is located inside a sports performance facility, making the G.O.A.T. connection feel especially fitting.

But more than any of those reasons, the goat reminds me of something important.

Learning isn't always a straight path.

Sometimes children need a different route.

A different explanation.

A different strategy.

A different pace.

That's okay.

Some of the strongest learners I've ever worked with simply needed someone willing to meet them where they were and help them keep climbing.

You'll Be Hearing a Lot from Bo

Around here, you'll be seeing one phrase quite often:

Bo Knows.

Bo knows reading.

Bo knows math.

Bo knows executive functioning.

Bo knows dyslexia.

Bo knows ADHD.

Bo knows that confidence comes before achievement.

Bo knows that mistakes are part of learning.

Bo knows that every child learns differently.

Most importantly, Bo knows that every child is capable of growth when they're given the right tools, the right encouragement, and the right support.

Beginning this back-to-school season, you'll find us here each week sharing practical, research-based ideas for parents, students, homeschool families, and educators.

We'll celebrate student successes. We'll share learning strategies that actually work. We'll explain the research behind effective teaching in everyday language.

And we'll continue doing what we've always loved doing—helping kids build confidence, one step at a time.
